Showcasing Veracity
Expanding Power over Ethernet
Power over Ethernet is a pretty simple concept that is making lives easier in the IP Video market. Early generations of IP Cameras required both a data cable and a power source to operate. Obtaining power in hard to reach, or obscure places where camera placement is needed would require a licensed electrician, and a range of additional material. Power over Ethernet protocols have simplified this obstacle by supplying both Power and Data over a single Cat5 or Cat6 cable. Because Network Cables do not require a qualified electrician to install them, IP Cameras or other PoE devices can be located anywhere.

Recognizing the obvious benefits of Power over Ethernet technology, Veracity has developed a handful of products that make design, testing, and installation of PoE devices much easier and far more efficient. The Veracity Pointsource featured above is a portable rechargeable battery that can be used in the feild to setup, test, or demonstrate an IP Camera without a permanent installation. Another innovative tool from Veracity is the PinPoint Adapter. This simple dongle like adapter allows you to tap into a PoE fed network cable at the camera location, and access only the data feed while leaving the power feed intact. With this access, you can configure the internal settings of the camera while physically being able to adjust the lens and postion, all while viewing the video feed from a laptop attached to the Pinpoint Adapter. For more information on either of these items, check out these links: PointSource BatteryPinpoint Adapter.

Going Outdoors with Axis PTZ's

The ASIS show in Dallas, Texas seemed like the right time for Axis Communications to announce the latest additions to their Environmentally friendly cameras. With temperatures soaring well above 100 degrees in Dallas, the need for high quality surveillance that can withstand the heat is essential in protecting outdoor assets. Axis saw this need and ran with it. Creating their own housings specially designed for their state-of-the-art IP cameras, the E-class was born. Axis camera models that have an “E” following their standard part number means they come equipped with either an IP66 or IP67 rated housing. Outdoor rated housings are nothing new to Axis, but combining them with their IP Cameras in an all in one package has made the entire process, from design to installation much easier for everyone involved.

Capitalizing on this, Axis is expanding the “E” feature with the new standard resolution P5532-E, and the high definition P5534-E. Both base models are fairly new to the Axis portfolio but now are available outdoor ready, and designed for a speedy install. The P-Series offers many familiar features such as Day/Night capabilities, H.264 Compression, Power over Ethernet, Multiple Video Streams, and most enticing, HDTV 720p resolution (P5534-E). The only feature that sets the P-Series apart from its older brother, the Q-Series is Limited Guard Tour. The Q-Series cameras such as the Q6032-E, and the Q6034-E have the capability of continuous 360 degree motion, giving it the full Guard Tour feature. The P-Series offers the Limited Guard tour feature, which means that while in motion, once the camera reaches close to 360 degrees, Auto-Flip is engaged, the frame freezes just for a moment while the camera repositions itself, and then the pan or tilt movement continues. The Limited Guard Tour will not be an issue in most everyday scenarios and will most likely only affect your coverage while tracking objects at a high rate of speed. Even then, the new P5532-E and P5534-E are very impressive Outdoor PTZ Cameras, at a very competitive price.

For a demonstration of how simple installation is of the new “E” class of Axis PTZ Cameras, see this product page: Axis Q6032-E

Vivotek Has a Hand in the Chilean Miners Rescue

Vivotek supplied one their latest IP Cameras for the Chilean Mine Rescue. Located in the capsule used to transport the miners from the well to the surface, Vivoteks camera played an important part in monitoring the safety of the miners in their path to freedom. Vivotek issues a formal statement on their website which read:

“…However, it’s also worth noting that VIVOTEK has played an important role in this dramatic operation. Its FD8134 fixed dome network camera is an integral part of the rescue capsule, providing operators working at a ground level a clear, real-time view of the conditions in and around the capsule as it makes its descent to retrieve each miner and then return to the surface. With its superb HD video quality and compact size, the FD8134 was the perfect choice, and VIVOTEK is proud to have done its part to bring this amazing rescue effort to a happy conclusion.”

MidwestSurveillance salutes Vivotek for their contribution to such a great success.
